We used Horizons math through 6th grade, then switched over to Saxon. My oldest boy used LIFEPACs in the upper grades as well. It depends on if they are taking the class with me, or with a tutor. The tutor used Saxon. My oldest used LIFEPACs because he was going to tech school in 11th & 12th grades and couldn't get to the classes with the tutor (like a co-op class). He would talk to his dad if he didn't understand any of the problems. My daughter uses TT right now and likes it -- she opted not to go the tutor/outside classes route.

That's actually really cute I like that idea. I am so excited about this. Do you use lifepac math? I was thinking about using them or do you have a better company?

I used Easy Grammar Grade 6 two years ago as a review (for my tree children I was still teaching) and to solidify what they know (great review for me as well).

The 'picture' is actually the border of the lined sheets the students use on Fridays for their "final draft" of their penmanship for the week. There are four days of practice lines each week, and then the fifth day you have the student pick a border sheet to write their "best" on, and color the border graphics. They can then display the final product on the frig, or send to a relative, or whatever else your family decides to do with them.

Is there a book you found that helped you understand highway to english grammar? I guess I'm ok at writing but don't remember verb and adverb rules and such.
another mother said she didn't use the penmanship books she just had them write their memory verses, but you said there is a picture for them color? I better just get them cause everyone's opinion seems to be so different and I might like them.

While I am a fluent writer, I am not well-versed in dangling participles and stuff like that. I tried to use Highway to English Grammar, but felt unable to teach it properly and stopped after about a dozen lessons. Since that time I've learned more about grammar and plan to try it again in the next year or two with my last two children who will both be in high school. Learning to Love Literature is FABULOUS! I will use that next year for sure. I've used it before and really liked it. One of our Weaver moms is an English major and she LOVES the grammar materials. The penmanship program is basically the same you will find with other programs: ideas for copywork and lined sheets to write on. Excellent for the younger grades as they like to color the "final" sheets. I usually switch to plain lined paper for older children as that's what they will be writing on for the rest of their lives and I want them to be comfortable with it.

I do recommend the other resources, because it's all written from the same mind-set (the same author), but if it doesn't work for someone I have other recommendations as well. :-)

ok thank you for all your help. This makes more sense the volumes 4-5 being used longer and passing through everything twice. I think I can really make this work. I most likely wont be buying many books, just using the skills evaluation. Our library system is huge. basically we get to use library books from all over the entire state, we can get interlibrary loans. The only books right now I can think ill be spending money on is good creation science books, especially the dinosaur ones seeing as how I have 2 boys who love dinosaurs. Thank you for easing my mind on this, i was really getting confused wondering if I could handle this. I'm glad I can cause its so affordable and we only have one income.
