You may have thought I’ve dropped out of sight because I haven’t posted in awhile, but I’m still here! We started school on August 20th, and the two weeks leading up to that were spent in preparation. I have not been on the computer before school at all (except for today and one other day) because I tend to get caught-up in email and then school starts late.

Today I have 15 minutes before school starts, so I wanted to share my lesson planning strategy with you. I have three “calendars” that work together. If you are part of the U-Weaver email list, you can access copies of them in the files section (under Planning Pages — they are Excel Spreadsheets).  If you download a copy of the files, there is a page within it that explains how I do my planning, but I’ll summarize it here, too.

I start with a “monthly” view. Each page fits 6 weeks of boxes, so one page holds more than one month. I print off all the months for the school year, usually about 7 or 8 pages. I figure out when our days off will be and mark them accordingly on these pages.

I then print out my weekly pages. These show Mon - Fri, with all our ‘classes’ listed down the side. I can plan which classes will be held which days, and I use different colored pens for each child.

I then print out my daily planning pages. These pages have all the classes down the sides, with my children’s names across the top. These pages let me see at a glance what each child is expected to do each day.

The monthly calendars help me to plan out where the children should be in their math, when a unit will be completed, when days off are, etc. The weekly pages help me to see how “full” our week is going to be. The daily pages help me keep track of individual work.

Each night I pull the pages from Weaver that I’ll need for the next day and clip them to the Daily Page. I try to keep them in order of use, too, so Bible will be first, then social studies/history or science, then resource pages, then Wisdom Words, etc.
